Employers’ are now able to apply for a one off payment of £3,000 from the Government if they have hired an apprentice between 1st October 2021 and 31st January 2022. This is in addition to the £1,000 they already receive for hiring an apprentice.
In order to qualify, the apprentice must have an employment commencement date between 1st October 2021 and 31st January 2022, and an apprenticeship commencement date between 1st October 2021 and 31st March 2022. For applications to be processed, they must be submitted by 15th May 2022, and the employer must have an Apprenticeship service account. The application form can be found on the Government website under the apprenticeship page.
There are no usage restrictions on the payment, meaning it can be used for anything to support the business such as uniforms, the apprentices travel costs, or their salary.
The payment will be made in two equal instalments on the 14th of the month; the first instalment on completion of the first 90 days of the apprenticeship, and the second on completion of the 365th day of the apprenticeship.
